Stertil Dock Products has completed the supply and installation of full loading bay systems for two new distribution units at VGP Park East Midlands, a major logistics development strategically located adjacent to Junction 24a of the M1.
Delivered for development partner Newlands Developments, with Glencar Construction acting as main contractor, the project forms part of a high-specification logistics park designed to support modern warehousing and distribution operations across the UK.
The two units are 256,258 sq ft and 141,000 sq ft respectively, with both buildings featuring 15m clear internal heights and extensive service yards designed to support high-volume logistics operations.
The site has also achieved an EPC rating of ‘A’, reflecting a strong focus on energy efficiency and sustainable building performance.
In total, Stertil supplied and installed 37 loading bays, 4 level access bays and 22 steel personnel doorsets.
The loading bays included a combination of 31 standard ‘single bays’ and 6 larger ‘double/Euro bays’, allowing the facility to accommodate a wider range of vehicle types and trailer heights.
The single bays were equipped with Stertil S-Series dock levellers, WE dock shelters and Thermadoor 640D sectional doors, while the larger double/Euro bays featured extra-long dock levellers, WL dock shelters designed for vehicles up to 5200mm high, and larger sectional doors.
To help protect the loading bay infrastructure from vehicle impact, Stertil also supplied PE dock bumpers throughout the project. Manufactured using a polyethylene block mounted within a steel housing frame with integral shock absorbers, the patented design is exclusively available in the UK through Stertil.
The installation also included LED traffic lights and FLEXLED dock lights to improve both safety and operational efficiency across the loading areas. Featuring a flexible goose neck design, the FLEXLED system helps illuminate the full length of the trailer while reducing the risk of damage from accidental impact during loading operations.
Each Thermadoor sectional door supplied as part of the project was manufactured using double-skinned galvanised steel panels bonded to high-density 40mm insulated cores, delivering excellent thermal performance alongside robust day-to-day durability. Full-width glazed panels were also incorporated, helping create a lighter working environment while improving visibility during trailer loading and unloading.
The supplied doors achieve U-values between 1.10 and 1.3 W/m²K, supporting the overall energy efficiency objectives of the development and contributing towards the site’s EPC ‘A’ rating.
The inclusion of 22 steel fire exit doorsets across the two units completes a comprehensive package of Stertil loading bay equipment and industrial doors for the development.
